“Light my Fire” (Part2)

one./ two./ three./ four./ five./ six./ seven./

The sunlight comes into the house in between the curtains, reflected on Anya’s beautiful face. She feels exhausted after last night’s concert when the last thing she remembers is being on the stage and almost kissing the lead singer of “Dead Smiles”, Ian.

Now that she opens her eyes, she realizes that she’s not back home. A pair of washed leather boots lies next to the bed and an antique home made folk art guitar is hanged on the opposite wall. In addition to these, a stalk of plates remains dirty in the sink, on the other part of the house. That is definitely not her apartment!

The door opens and Ian enters. He looks drunk, kind of  high, with red eyes, dilated pupils and a giant stain of coffee on his straight-leg jeans.

Ian: “Good morning sunshine! Did you sleep well?”

Anya has now a strong desire to leave from this filthy place, whose owner is almost a stranger to her.  The element that confirms her fears is the image of his leather messenger bag lying open on the floor and dozens of drug pills coming out.

Anya: “Oh my God, what is wrong with me? What happened last night, Ian?”

Ian: “Sweetie, we just had some beers, danced for a while and we ended up with a couple of friends here smoking pot.”

Anya: “Are you serious? I can’t bring back any of these memories on my mind..”

She grabs her bag and decides to escape from the “drug cavern”. She puts on her yellow shorts and she starts running towards the front door. During her attempt, she steps on Ian’s green lens sunglasses and she crashes them with her sandals. In any other occasion, she would have stopped but now the only thing that exists on her mind is remorse for the wild night and the unexplained loss of her self-control.

Running in the garden, she observes something moving behind the bushes. It’s Ian’s huge Rottweiler looking at her, barking and showing her its stabbing teeth. A scream leaves her mouth instantly because a contemporary Cerberus blocks her path. Meanwhile, the whole situation restores her memory and digs up a quote that she read once.

Conscience is the dog that can’t bite, but never stops barking.

So, is this her conscience that keeps yelling at her, saying that she did something wrong?

Anya: “Useless quotes. Let’s get out of here.”

Anya ignores the dog and continues her race towards the exit. When the gate is closed behind her, a sigh comes out unconsciously. Her icon, the lead singer of a boy band and her latest crush, has fallen apart as in the end, reality is really different from what it seems ideal and perfect. Next time, she will think twice before becomes enthusiastic about somebody and she will never drink AGAIN! Or maybe until the next boy band concert..Hmmm…
