Set amidst the rolling downs, hop fields and fruit orchards that surround the picturesque village of Boughton-under-Blean in Kent, The Linen Shed is the place to come and relax and unwind in understated luxury.Tucked away from the main road, a winding footpath leads you through the rockery, past an American postbox and along the weatherboard veranda to our front door.
Inside, you walk up the staircase into faded vintage grandeur and the smell of baking. Exposed original wooden floorboards and reclaimed architectural detail make the most of the way the light pours into this former drill hall which is now eco-friendly having been lined in sheep’s wool. Decorated in the French style, modern classics sit comfortably alongside the vintage bric-a-brac, colonial furniture and beautiful antiques that we have collected over the years.
Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with a cup of tea or a glass of something chilled (depending on the time of day and your preference). Breakfast is served whenever and wherever suits you, be that in our French dinning room or outside on our New Orleans style verandah, overlooking the rose filled garden and gypsy caravan. Dressing gowns for all make it a relaxed at-home affair and our deck is also the perfect spot to enjoy a drink or two on a warm summer’s evening.
Breakfasts at The Linen Shed are definitely something to write home about. They are happy to whip you up a seaside picnic (complete with ring burner to cook your own crab cakes at the beach) as they are to fix you a delicious snack should you get a chance to be hungry.
In each of the three rooms, you’ll find French hand washed linen sheets, cotton robes, fresh flowers and the obligatory fluffy towels. The Bird Room: Complete with vintage mirrors, painted birds and a king size bed just for two, the Bird Room is a real home from home. You’ll be sharing a bathroom with the main house and they are more than happy to make themselves scarce if you fancy a soak in the roll top bath with local lavender bath salts.
The French Room: The Empress bed in this vintage boudoir is big enough for at least four people. Flop in after dinner, curl up with a good book or snuggle in for the night with your choice from the DVD library.
The Green Room: Snug and mellow with an antique hand-carved double bed, this room is as cosy as they come. Make sure you leave enough time for a proper soak in the tub with local lavender bath salts. An hour or two should do it.
Having trained as a gourmet chef in Switzerland, Vickie’s breakfasts will more than set you up for the day. Vickie spent her early years jetting round the world as Tiny Rowland’s private chef. She’s distracted by all things “foodie” and has catered for all sorts of people in all sorts of places.
Her love of cooking and hosting is now poured into her famed serious breakfasts. From homemade blackcurrant compote with Greek yoghurt, potato rosti and local Kent apple juice to tomatoes-on-the-vine, 7 types of salt, butter from France and local sausages from Monkshill Farm, you’re guaranteed to breakfast like a king (after having just slept like one).
Vickie, Graham, Cecil and Mr. Wilfred are looking forward to your stay at The Linen Shed! Be sure to visit this amazing place soon, we have already booked our tickets!
